CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR MEDICAL TEXTILES.

Medical Textiles



SITRA is pleased to inform that the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) constituted by the Government of India under the Chairmanship of Secretary (Textiles) for selection of Centres of Excellence, has designated SITRA as a CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR MEDICAL TEXTILES.

With infrastructure support to be provided by the Ministry, SITRA will be offering the following facilities at one place for the convenience of the manufacturers of meditech segment of technical textiles:

(i) Facilities for testing and evaluation of products of medical textiles

SITRA shall be providing testing facilities as per International standards like, ASTM, BIS, BIN, ISO, EN etc. for different products of meditech segment, including fibre, yarn, fabrics as well as the final product.

(ii) A National and International accreditation centre for Meditech

SITRA which already has ISO/IEC 17025:2005 certification from NABL, shall also be getting accreditation from reputed international institutions so that the test results are accepted in the international market.

(iii) A resource centre with I.T.infrastructure

SITRA shall have an information resource centre which shall serve as “knowledge and reference base” for entrepreneurs and users of medical textiles. The centre will be equipped with technical literature, reference material, books, specifications, standards, directives and a sample bank containing medical textiles. Information about production, technology, raw material, standards, testing procedures, machinery, suppliers, domestic & global demand, details of end users, end use applications and also project profiles will be available for all medical textile products. An exclusive website for meditech segment of the technical textiles will also be available which shall provide link to other relevant sites with information on technical textiles, particularly meditech segment.

(iv) Training of personnel

Facilities will be available at SITRA to offer training to textile technologists, academicians, scientists, etc. so that there would be no dearth of trained manpower in the field of knowledge based technology of meditech segment in the country. Training shall encompass knowledge, technology and end use applications. Training facilities will also be setup at satellite clusters of medical textiles to facilitate the technicians to attend the training programme.
